ReNEW New York
Fifth in a Series of Discussions about Renewable Energy
Passive House: The Future of Energy Efficiency
The Community Church of New York, 40 East 35th Street (Park & Madison)
Passive House is an exciting new tool to change our energy future. If buildings were built or retrofitted to Passive House standards, we’d be using 80-90% LESS energy than we do now to heat and cool them. This is not only possible, it’s already happening: Passive House is now the building standard in Europe, and 34 projects have started here in NYC. If we can save that much energy, there’s clearly no need for new pipelines, or for a continued reliance on fossil fuels. This is a game changer.

A Panel Discussion with:
Chris Benedict, Architecture and Energy Limited;
Dehran Duckworth, TriState BioDiesel;
Ron Kamen, New York Solar Energy Industries Association.
Moderated by Dan Miner, Beyond Oil NYC
The City’s new heating oil rules require buildings to stop using heavy oils by 2030, and building owners are tempted to convert to gas, due to its current low price. But what is the true cost of “cheap” gas, when fracking could ruin our air and water, and bring radon-laden shale gas to our stoves? Are conservation, solar thermal and biodiesel realistic alternatives?
